This page explains what the Carrie’s website collects, why, who else handles it, and how to have it corrected or deleted. It covers carriesbar.com and nothing else. Carrie’s is run by Carrie’s Bar Inc., 307 Cherokee Street, Leavenworth, Kansas 66048.
The short version
- You can read every page of this site without telling us anything.
- We only learn who you are if you send us a message, join the newsletter, or buy tickets.
- We use what you send to answer you, to send the newsletter you asked for, or to put your name on the list for an event. With the newsletter, we also check whether you have been in lately, so regulars and newcomers can hear different things. Nothing else.
- We do not sell, rent, or trade what you send us, and we do not use it for advertising.
When you send us a message
The contact form on the Private Events page asks for your name, your email, and your message. You can also give a phone number, a date, and the size of your group. We keep what you send so we can answer you and plan your evening, and a copy goes to the manager’s email inbox.
When we answer, the email comes from messages@carriesbar.com. If you reply to it, or write to that address yourself, your email is kept with the rest of the conversation so whoever answers can see what was said before. If we book your date, the name, head count, and date go on our planning calendar, which is shared with the software that runs the bar.
So that one sender cannot flood the form, we also keep a scrambled code made from your internet address, not the address itself. We use it only to count how many messages have come from the same place in the last hour.
We keep messages only as long as we need them to answer you or to plan your event, and then we delete them.
When you join the newsletter
The newsletter needs only your email address. We record when you signed up, the page you signed up from, and when you confirmed. Nothing goes out until you click the link in the confirmation email, so nobody can sign you up without you.
We also check whether your address matches a customer record at Square, the system that runs our register, so that we can send news about events to guests who have been in and send less to those who have not. If it matches, we keep a count of the days you have visited in the last 90 days and the date of the last one. We do not get your card details or what you ordered. Square only knows an address you have given it, for an email receipt for example, so for many readers this check finds nothing, and we keep a note of that too.
Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link, and one click takes you off the list. We keep an unsubscribed address marked as unsubscribed so that it is never mailed again. If you would rather we delete it entirely, ask and we will.
When you buy tickets
The Tickets page asks for the name to put on the list at the door, an email for your confirmation, and, if you like, a phone number. We keep these with the event, the number of seats, what each seat chose when the evening offers a choice (which flight, say), what you paid, and whether you arrived, so we can run the evening and answer questions about it afterward. Seats you buy for other people are listed under your name as your guests; we do not ask for their names.
You pay on Square’s own secure page, not on ours, and Square handles your card under Square’s privacy policy. We never see or store your card number. We pass Square your email and phone number to fill in its page, and Square tells us whether the payment went through and for how much.
To stop one sender holding every seat, we keep a scrambled code made from your internet address, not the address itself, for one hour.
Cookies and measuring visits
The public pages of this site set no cookies of their own. The only cookies on them come from the measuring tools below, when those are on. The only sign-in on the site is for our staff, in the back office and the kitchen screen, and it is not used on the pages guests see.
From time to time we may use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. When it is on, Google sets its own cookies and receives your internet address and basic facts about your browser and device, under Google’s privacy policy. We use it only to count and compare, never for advertising. You can block it with Google’s opt-out add-on or your browser’s own privacy settings, and the site works the same either way.
We may also use the Meta Pixel, from the company that runs Facebook and Instagram. When it is on, Meta sets its own cookie and receives your internet address, the pages you visit here, and basic facts about your browser. We use it to see whether our posts and ads bring people to the site, and to show our ads to people who have visited. Meta may connect this with a Facebook or Instagram account you are signed in to, under Meta’s privacy policy. You can turn this off in your Facebook or Instagram ad settings, or block it in your browser, and the site works the same either way.
Who else handles it
The site, its storage, and its email run on Microsoft Azure. Like any web host, Azure handles your internet address in order to deliver pages and keep the site secure. Microsoft processes what you send on our behalf and does not use it for its own purposes.
Links to Google Maps, Instagram, and Facebook take you to those services, which have their own privacy policies. Nothing from them loads on our pages until you follow the link, except the Meta Pixel described above, when it is on.
When you buy tickets, Square handles the payment as described above.
We share information with anyone else only if the law requires it.
Keeping it safe
Every page is served over an encrypted connection. Messages, the newsletter list, and event guest lists sit in private storage, and only the owner can see them, behind a sign-in.
Age
Carrie’s is a bar and serves guests 21 and over. This site is not meant for children, and we do not knowingly collect anything from anyone under 13.
Seeing, correcting, or deleting what we hold
Ask us what we have, and we will tell you. Ask us to correct it or delete it, and we will. Send a message through the contact form, choosing “Something else,” or call 913-738-5800 during open hours. You can also write to us at 307 Cherokee Street, Leavenworth, KS 66048.
Changes
If what the site collects changes, this page changes first, and the date below changes with it.
